Hi all

This is my first post and I hope some of you clever people out there will be able to help me and stop me wasting money at the garage.

I have just purchased a 1997 Discovery V8i one owner from new, nice motor and well looked after. There are three small things wrong with it and I'm not sure if there is any connection between them bearing in mind that they are all electrical and all in close proximity to one another inside the car.

1 Cruise control inop no light on switch
2 Cigarette lighter not working (I don't smoke but need it for sat-nav)
3 No illumination lights on gear box.

I checked all the fuses in the boxes under the steering wheel and the other fuse box in the engine bay and all the fuses are ok could there be a line fuse somewhere and how easy is it to change the cigarette lighter if nesecary

Thanks for reading
Tom

If you have severl things not working in a close proximity it can be a faulty earth as they often share earth points, just chase the cabling back see where you get too. (easyer said than done!)

Hi, I've recently dealt with a cruise that didn't work on my 300tdi. I had to follow and examine every part of the circuit which can be found in Haines manual. Ultimately it was the cruise control unit that had failed (replacement £115). As Ormus stated it could be a duff lock out relay but for the sake of a few quid get the manual. It won't show you where the parts are but trust me they are accessable (when you know how) and you can do simple voltage and continuity checks at certain stages which will determine where the fault is.
1st clue. The cigy supply & Lights on gear box have nothing to do with it. seperate circuit

I don't have my manual to hand at the moment but the supply to the cruise & switch comes from a seperate fuse however it goes through the ignition and several other safety checks such as gear lock out, brake light before it will operate.

Give us a day to find the book and I'll check back if you need any further help
