My 110 is now super dry underneath and I am thinking about getting rid of the crud and applying stone chip or paint. What is the best thing to use to get rid of all the crud or is it a case of wire brush and long periods of getting dirty?

Yes, the more dirt and loose material you can get off the better, so your coatings have something solid to stick to.

Get it down your local lorry wash place and get a "Pre MOT" underbody clean, those guys have kit that will strip ALL the crud off and you will just have to leave it to dry again.
