So RAVE is wrong again, I can park mine with 15C on the display and come out turn on and it may be showing -5C with the snowflake if it's been a cold night.
Likewise I parked at the supermarket facing the sun on Friday with 24C on the dash, when restarted it was showing 32C

Strange that because mine fitted with the latest Hevac unit does exactly what RAVE says it should do. Have a look at the part number on the back of your Hevac maybe an early version has been fitted. Yours should be JFC102550 with heated seats or JFC102540 without them. Older units won't have the new Hevac software installed in the later units as mentioned in the text.

Not planning to pull it out to look but I believe it's original and the car is late 2000.
Could be the usual LR trick of using what is in the parts bin, can't see a good reason for the delay in any case, if there is an ice hazard you need to know before you set off.

I would tend to agree, but that is what you have with the latest unit. So RAVE is correct.

Rachs car is 2001 so i quoted info for that year. Hevac units and position of ambient temp sensor changed for MY 1997. Up to and including MY 1996, sensor was located in N/S fresh air inlet box.
Errr...just a guess, but I think there might be - I could be wrong - but I would say, and don't laugh now...I can only assume (don't know why!!) that there is a possible problem with the Right Hand Blend Motor, possibly ..... but I guess diagnostics could tell you more....
Ambient Temp sensor is mounted behind the Land Rover green oval on the grill....check this, usually when they fail they read a negative temp value....being under the bonnet in the beating sun it is possible it could reach 90degF until such time the air flow over it cools it down! - I was fecking hot yesterday!

The book symbol comes on mine quite often - there are no fault codes logged and the blend motors work perfectly. So I ignore it these days.

Ambient temp sensor up to and including MY1996 is in N/S side of N/S fresh air box in scuttle. MY 1997 and on ambient temp sensor is on a bracket to R/H side of grille aperture forward of condensor fans. With grille removed looking towards front of car.
Well its there somewhere behind the grill...True but I don't recall it being behind the green oval
