I finally went out and bought a mig welder :). So now I fancy a wee project in replacing some of the rear chassis.

Does anyone have or know of where I can get templates or detailed drawings of the chassis to reproduce sections prior to welding them in?

Nope sorry, I often use cardboard to mock up a template and then form the the steel before welding it in to position.

Oh....if you are lucky enough to locate some templates, please do share :)
 
corn flakes box, pizza box, pair of scissors, sellotape and then get all blue peter on it
 
Having seen Pressbrake use a plasma cutter to cut out the various shapes it is the way to go. I've previously used various grinding and cutting discs but tit takes ages and is hard to form decent shapes. Its the next thing on my wish list once I win the lottery.
 
Over the past 12 months there has been some really good deals on plasma cutters. I too would love one, but there's no way I could justify it to her indoors :(

I cut alot of patches for my chassis. Started off with a grinder and hacksaw but ended up using a jigsaw with 'bosch aggressor' metal cutting blades. So long as you keep the blades well oiled they last forever. Good control, accuracy, no finishing required.....
 
My friend has the full CAD plans, I will email him and try get hold of them. In the mean time go practice.

Good idea. When the template fits perfect place it on a flattened roses tin and draw round it ready for cutting then weld it on. ;)

Me dad had one for a while. He had it converted from 2.25 petrol to 2.5nas diesel. Heater didn't work as the fans were catching so I cut a big washer out of wood to offset the grill. Made the heater work betterer but know where near the heat needed to warm it up. Full of tips me. ;)

I get good control and accuracy with my plasma with no finishing required;)

Not really. He sold the tratter for a rrc and sold that for a non lr product then sold that for the Freelander. Freelander was the newest car he'd ever had, and thought it was the best. :p
