Hi, hoping someone may have some advice. I've a battery light on, I went to the Land Rover dealer and they said I had an alternator problem. I tested the voltages and the battery was at 12.2 alternator pumping it up to 14.4. Looked more like a battery problem to me, so I've replaced the battery, now getting 12.6, still getting 14.4 when running the engine, but the battery light still comes on after a couple of minutes of starting. . Any ideas appreciated. Replacing the alternator sounds expensive when the voltage looks spot on.

Hi,

Unfortunately you have posted this in the wrong section. LZIR is normally used for dire emergencies.

Lets see if a friendly person is available to move it to the freelander section/

@blue beasty , can this be moved to the freelander pages . Pretty please.....

FL2 is a smart charging system and the output voltage varied depending on demand on the system

You need to check the comms wire from the alternator to the engine management ecu and see what is going on and view on live data what the car thinks the alternator is doing versus what it has requested.

I suspect at the end of the day you'll need a new alternator

I'd replace the gubbins in the top of the alternator. That'll be cheaper. Sounds like current is leaking back the wrong way.

Thanks chaps, not sure I've the knowledge or tools to do the suggested tests on the ecu but maybe worth trying the alternator gubbins before shelling out for a new one.
