Hello folks,

I have bought a 99 on a S-reg Freelander XDi. There seems to be an intermittent fault with the key fob. Sometimes it opens the car first time and other times I am left pressing the button furiously until the doors unlock. I have fitted a new battery and paired the fob with the car following the procedure of pressing it approx five times in close proximity to the car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Neil.

don't forget, press once, drivers door only, press twice, all doors.

when it gets confusing is if one of more of the door lock solenoids starts to fail and it seems like in isn't unlocking, when it is.

Could be the rubber buttons are perishing and the micro switches underneath are failing. Take it apart and check inside. Also check inside for corrosion.

Thanks, I think its more likely to be the fob itself. The rubber buttons appear to be in good order, however you don't know whats lurking underneath. If I need a new fob, how much are they?

Always worthwhile to search on Ebay first as no-one likes paying stealer prices

Also if you have a number of issues with the car, you can make a list on one thread rather than starting a thread for individual problems ;)
