hiya

also meant to ask is TTi cb's any good, also to save me having to scratch the paint off, can i simply put an earth ring onto the mounting bracket then a short piece of wire down to the spare wheel mount with o ring connectors on each end of the wire.

also seen some quick release aerial fittings are these any good, will they effect the aerials reception quality, just thought it would be ideal to stop sticky fingers , if i used one of these fittings would i have to use a swr meter

thks again

the mount will earth its self the easiest way of testing "earth" is to conect it all up including the coax plug and switch the cb on the take the negitive wire out of conection if the "earth" is good then it will stay on BUT do not transmit this way you must reconect the negitive wire .also i have lost touch with cbs that was a long time a go so can not tell you on which cb to have , the only thinkg i can tell you is that you do not have to have a licence any more.

thks for that, as i saw a wire coming off another bracket so i assumed this was a ground wire etc,

will do that once i get my rig, been also looking for cb reviews that are normally nest to cb for sale

thks again

hiya

saw a pic somewhere of a cb aerial mounted onto a metal bracket, it had a wire connected to the base of the aerial and went down and bolted onto the body

what i saw on a cb site was they said to scrape off the paint in order that the aerial can get a good earth against the body, if not get 2 x 0 style electrical crimps, put one on each end of a wire, then one goes at the base of the aerial and then onto a good ground place on the body, in my case the spare wheel bolt,

another way of testing a good earth is get a continuity meter as found on mulity meters if you do not have one the get a long piece of wire and a bulb run a live of the battery and earth the other side of the bulb onto the mount when the wheel has been tightened up and it should light ,with the mulity meter just get a good earthing point and then one lead on that and the other on the bracket , i have tried both ways and they both work

hiya

yep got a decent multimeter, still got all my electrical testing stuff when i was a boiler breakdown engineer

will do that when ive got it fitted, going to get someone to lift the wheel off for me as i simply cant do things like that anymore,

thks so much and sorry asking so many questions and being a apin, always like to understand things properly and sometimes know im a bit slow on the uptake , lol

thks again for all the great info

hiya guys,

now got my spare wheel bracket which i may add is a sturdy piece of kit,

have any of you also mounted ur aerial on ur spare wheel plse

was going to get a spring based aerial but was wondering if i got a 4 foot one, could i bend it over permanently and secure the tip, of how much reception etc i would loose

may i ask what kind of reception do u guys get please, have u got away with a 3 foot one.

i understand the longer the aerial the better, was just wondering what set up youve found to be the best and what type make etc of aerial u use please

have seen pics from cb positions and i think i will put it into the drivers side glovebox, as its out of the way

thks so much guys,
