I used super strong self adhesive velcro to install my radio ,, works a treat and stayed rock solid green laning all day .... Just follow the pics , its that simple , and with a 7inch mag mount and a large springer ariel , It didnt even need swr ing lol
It had a perfect SWR rating after tested .. I used and Alan Midland 78 Plus ...

Ya not wrong it does look a bit untidy lol .. But aslong as the bouncing around on the lanes and te views are good , you dont realy notice lol . plus after a few ditches the cable finds its way to looking more tidy .

But it dont squeek ar rattle or even come undone till ya finished using it , and all ya got to do is unplug it and put it away and you dont even have any holes in ya dash to worry about ..

wales? are you running the screen from a pda or laptop. im looking at running memory map on my pda but after playing with the sample last night, i think im gonna need to use a bigger screen
 
neither, it's running from a 12v Car PC in the boot. wired into the cars electrics. with a loom going over the doors in the headlining... Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS etc.

it's also loaded with Navigator 7, Rave and microcat parts.

i used a PDA at first and it was fine, all but the screen size. trouble was the size of the maps... sometimes we'd head into wales and go off the map that i'd installed! now i got the whole of the UK & france on the hard drive and can If i wanted drop a map portion onto the PDA as it's got built in GPS.
 
im thinking of running the maps from an external hardrive and then running to laptop. then bluetooth gps reciever to laptop. you reckon that would be ok?

yer thats a good idea cos hard drives love being bounced around

but i think this conversation has been had here before

orientation plays a part. if the platters are hoizontal and the read heads work in the latteral plane, they survive better than if mounted vertically. Still they are subject to shock though.

orientation would have a minimal affect on reliability - anyone wanting to do this should use SSD only - platter damage and subsequent system failure caused by a head crash in the middle of nowhere wouldn’t be good

but lets not start this all over again - each to their own
