Have you tried Knights Radio In Kirton lyndsey?? If you got to Kirton Offroad centre they're just up the road.

A basic kernow 1100 used to be sufficient for most back in the day, summit like a midland 98 is a good base model with a magmount and a thunderpole mini stinger
been a rig fenatic (been playing round with them since I was 12) I've been through my fair share of rigs
mounts and ariels spending all my pocket money and wages on rigs musta been thousands lol I've mounted an amstrad 901 in mine in the roof (lacks mic gain but that don't affect it in the truck only when it was in my tractor but does have a cheeky roger bleep lol Classic)
currently got a bignmagmount and a coil only cos I use it for business but gonna use a mag mount repair kit to mount it to iannotts' roofbar, a swr meter is a worthwile investment once you get more into it as a high swr can cook ur rigs internals BUT a freindly cb shop will check this for you once ur set up.......
Sniffmydiff is yours a skinny quick release or a chunky one as through experience the skinny ones were crap and sent your swr sky high,

Sounds like what may have happened to my old rig have got a midland 78+ which seems to have lost its signal (no transmission and very very weak receiver) have just picked up a recon realistic rig which I was told didnt need setting up but might have it checked just in case.

Hi i have one of these on a magmount Stainless Steel Gutter Mount - CTE

SWR didnt alter that much to be honest so i had no need to adjust the arial,

All in all i have at the min one of the best set ups i have had, And as for the "classic" roger beep, hmmmm beats an echo mic i guess lol.

These mount's seem ok, less chance of snagging aerial on tree's but might lose a bit of reception due to it being lower...

That's the good one sniff' the skinny ones the springs aren't strong enough and **** tolerences mean it flaps around like a slack *@!$ in the wind

those wheel mounts are a great idea for bullwhip ariels as it stops em gettin snapped off also good idea for multistoreys lol,

I've got a handfull o. Rigs a contractor gave me which are fried asked if he swrd them in he gave me a blank look, he'd fitted the ariel on a fibreglass roof.. If anyone needs to lower their swr even at the lowest swr and earthed out I'd recomend a three prong ground plane as it's the only way my tractor mount will swr to zero available quite cheaply on eBay

I got one of them on the roof of me Rangie - works well. I have also used a piece of sheet steel cut to whatever size with a mounting hole in it and soldered a ground lead on which seems to have been pretty successful too. from my limited experience "pre swr'd" aerials do need to be checked if you want to optimise performance.
