Hi All
New member here. I am looking to install a CB in my 110, I use my Landy for Mole Trapping on the Dales and Moors in Yorkshire. Never had a CB but due to poor phone coverage I was wondering whether to get CB fitted as back up if need to contact any local farmers etc. What advice do you have (i am novice CB user)?
What channel should I keep it on to pick up other users?

I moniter channel 19 when I go up the York Moors and explore the other channels when stopped anywhere for coffee etc. I very rarely pick up any radio traffic until I get near Whitby when I just get a few local lads telling each other how wonderful they are. The main use I get out of the CB is when I'm out laning with a few other Landies. I live in hope that CBs will eventually become popular like they used to be back in the 70s but really I think mobile phones killed them. Having said that; up on the Moors there are a lot of places with no network coverage.

I doubt many farmers will have cbs, better to make sure you go with someone or failing that make sure you tell people where your going and what time you will be back so they know when to expect you, CBs are mainly used for laning thesedays.

We use ours when we are running together to shows with the two Ruston diesels.

We use Channel 29 for car to car, otherwise a lot of rubbish on there. Channel 19 for getting a request out, but once contact is established go to another channel and leave 19 clear.

Most chat we ever heard was on the Polish settings on our TBC1100 in France of all places, they were chatting full time.

Thanks all for posts. Doesn't look like i will bother with CB as I am usually up the Dales on my own ( I do have friends...honest)

for the £70 I paid for my setup it has already been more fun and reliable than my mobile phone. I have used it while laning and while driving about with my mate. I get a good clear signal but rarely pick up anyone just out on the roads

When i was on't rig 20years ago protocol was thus:-
14 and 19 were the breaking channels...where you went to call yer mates.

Once you found them you went to another channel to chat.

Channel 9 was the emergency channel...there was always someone on there waiting to help when possible.

Bucket mouthing (swearing) was kept to a minimum.

No music playing.

If you went to a channel that was already in use you would get the "you're stamping move it up a couple" shout.

If you went to meet someone new it was an eyeball.

Fook me looking back we were a strange lot talking into a metal box to people we didn't know!!
