Achieved by electrically shortening or lengthening the aerial

So i need an electric aerial?? Only joking, i'm not quite that thick. (feckin close tho)

I've not tried a mag mount on a Defender ...... not even sure if it would stick.

I believe they fly off when you get to about 70 anyway. :rolleyes:

It really wont make a huge difference where you mount it.
Ideally in the centre of the vehicle on the roof and the longer the better, but again for short range i.e. a couple of miles front or back bumper will make little difference.

Mine is mounted on top of my bull bar and has the added advantage of being exactly the same height as the roof. So I know if the aerial gets pinged by a branch or other height restriction I'm gonna get stuck ;) :D :D
 
i used to use a mag mount .... on a several estate cars back in the eighties.... only times it let go was when hitting low trees or pheasants .... no probs with speed....

Thats a good idea, i'll see what maplin have in, or, i've just remembered there's a crackin shop in Bolton that sell every thing you could ever need, Modern Radio, they still stock valves!!
 
Go with a clamp mount this gives you a ground plain this in a nutshell the metal of the landy and mirrors the length of the antenna an SWR meter is used to tune and match your antenna to your CB so that you get the best effect from the kit you are using and the best from the power you are using. Most CB radios use FM (frequency modulation) in the VHF (Very High Frequency band) so with a CB putting out 5 watts and using a 1.5 meter wip antenna don’t expect more than 8 km of use out of it on a pay and play sight this is more than enough However if you are in a valley or thick tree line this can drop to as little as 3 km

so what I would have is

a cb that kicks out upto 5 watts
a 1.5 meter wip clamp mounted antenna
a SWR meter (not necessary but helps)

Worth spending the £10 and getting your own SWR meter complete with patch lead.

You'll need it, if you move the anttena, it gets ripped off, you decided you dont like the colour and buy a new one etc etc
 
No Problem.

Yeh me too walked into maplin one afternoon thinking "i wonder what over priced crap theyve got today" And saw those SWR meters a quick googled revealed that in fact they were a reasonable price and you dnt need to wait for delivery....
