I've been idly looking at replacement cats but am a bit confused.

Some of them refer to OBD and not OBD. I'm probably being dim as usual, but what does OBD mean?

What size lamdas will I have on my 98 4.6? 12mm?

2 x 12mm on my 97 gems, think they is 18mm on the thor and theres 4 ov em
 
Ooh, Just had the difference explained to me.

There are 3 possible cats for your car:
Part number BM90737 has 18mm lambda sensors.
Part number BM90214 has 12mm lambda sensors and no OBD (no sensor after cat) Part number BM90855 has 12mm lambda sensors and has OBD (has sensor after
cat)
The only way to no for sure is to take a look.

So my 98 GEMS would be...?

I just tried that on this website and they then proceeded to give me the same choice that I had found myself already.

Thassa good price. Who was your indy? Are cats the kind of things that any exhaust place ought to be able to supply and fit?

Are the lamdas after the cats or in front on a GEMS system? I can't remember and I'm at work so I can't go out and have a look....

Does £146 sound ok for a pair of new cats? Seems suspiciously cheap to me but I'm only going to wreck them offroading anyway so the cheaper the better.

I'm fed up with the racket from them now and just want it sorted.

I just had a look at Rimmer Bros. A pair of oem cats is almost £2K!!! I could buy another rangie for that much!

Cats2u is selling them from £146. Anyone tried them?
 
You should find UK spec vehicles will only have two O2 sensors upstream of the cats. Both Gems and Thor. I believe the American markets have two extra downstream sensors so the condition of the cats can be monitored by the ECU.

the lambdas are upstream, they wont affect obd, and if its lpg then you dont need the cats, i tested mine on lpg, one cat is kerfluxed, rattling like an old bird, walked straight through emmissions test!!

Aren't they a legal requirement though?

So what's your plan with yours? Replace or decat?

I'm guessing decat pipes are going to be just as difficult to find as replacement cats though!
