If a vehicle has a cat can I fit a non cat IE a bit of tube welded to the flanges, and can I by pass the lambda sensor, this is my Daughters Micra and she has been quoted £160.00 she is working a couple of hundred miles away from home but at that price it,d be cheaper to drive home and have me "sort it" , I have previously knocked the insides outa one for a guy who was on holiday as a temporary measure, but is it lwgal to do a permanant mod as I have suggested

No, will fail emissions, you have knowingly modified it to do so and as such is illegal...

£160 isnt bad but why not do it yourself? What year is it? If its a pre 2001 you can get a non type approved cat which will be nice and cheap...

go to a breakers yard as it wont run right after as you have a pre cat lamba and an after cat lamba so it will be telling the ecu it needs more fuel as after cat emissions is relayed to ecu via the lamba and it will over fuel to compensate or run like a sack of **** :)
