I remember seeing the handle of the jack touching the car at the very same spot where the scratch is. But like a plonker, I thought it would be OK, then forgot about it. I only saw the damage the day after and took it back.

He denies it though, OBVIOUSLY......

What would you do in my position?

Get some tcut n elbow grease on it and live with the fact that next time you need to say somthing sooner.

That's exactly what it is.

Anyway, sounds like I should just move on and forget about it - it's a local well known independent garage so doubt they will be bothered much.

I certainly wont be going there again and for the record it was a company called Ability Tyres Ltd at Ketley Business Park in Telford.

just send them a nicely worded letter saying you are upset by their lack of due dilegence and that you will not be using them again and wont be recomending them to friends or any forums that you are on.

then move on and use T-cut

Im going with that as I would expect it to be more localised , that looks like some thing has hit it with force,

The garage I use and most ive seen use pipe insulation on the handles so if they do rest on the body work they wont damage it.

Looks rather like the door was opened on to an obstruction, bollard/lamp post. A trolley tends to hit higher up and leave a smaller impact dent or linear scratch imho

Got some more pics to show that it's definitely without question the jack that caused it.

The car was in motion, albeit slowly this is what caused the scrape. Basically the car was jacked up both nearside and offside at the time. It was the nearside jack that was touching the paintwork and the offside jack was let down first hence the damage.

There are scratches on the mirror but only near to the car. Generally scratches on door mirrors are at the ends.

You can also see that the scratch has a little squiggle at the end, this indicates where the car bounced after the jack had been let down.

I will be sending them an email but that's as far as I'm taking it. I don't want them ANYWHERE near my car so will just swallow it and pay for the damage myself. Lesson learned I think. - Trust NO ONE
