can anybody please tell me if its ok to take of and disconnect the prop shaft to the rear wheels on a freelander td4 52 reg .

Welcome to tthe forum.

Yes it's ok to do. You'll need to tell your insurance company. May be easier to remove both props and the vcu in the middle. If you do that, make sure you support the vcu and disconnect the prop from ird and rear diff first.

Freelander friendship agreement states yer not allowed to pick on Freelanders and their owners on a bank holiday weekend.

It's probably best to take the prop and VCU off complete - an easy job but you need star sockets. As said support the VCU with a couple of axle stands and be careful dropping it down as its heavy.
