As the title....

Is there a cost effective way to fir central locking to an '87 110? I have a scrap Disco too so could recycle bits from there if possible.

Cheers,
Paddy

Yes im looking at doing the same thing but also fitting an alarm
Cobra do a standard alarm which is modular the g193 with a central locking output that's about £90 a central locking kit is about 30 from what I've found (car audio security)
I also looked at kits on fleebay which are a lot cheaper but obviously how reliable could they be.

I've just fitted a complete alarm, central locking, electric windows and total closure to my 94 300TDi 90.... Basically I walk away from it and press "lock"... The landy bleeps, the doors lock and the windows wind up then the blue light starts flashing and it's alarmed.

The wiring for that lot virtually doubles the existing wiring and it involves pulling 7 wires through to the doors (I pulled wires for heated mirrors whilst I was doing it so had to do 9). If you add the extra motors to the rear doors then there would be an extra 4 wires to each of those.

I have just started to write a tutorial on it :) but here is the wiring diagram as a sneak preview......

The current diagram doesn't show the shock sensor just plugged into the alarm and it shows the interior light as the 30 second lit option but the tutorial will explain everything. If you are using existing electric windows then you feed the electric roll up interface's wires into the existing loom so that you break the feed wire that goes positive when the window winds up.

The alarm that I have used is made by rclick it comes with alarm blippers that have flick out keys like modern cars. Mine looks just like my 13 plate golf's blipper (they supply the correct key blanks which you take to the key cutters {they charged me £5 to cut both} plus they also supply them with landrover badges). The alarm will also add remote start if you want that and has dozens of options for other things like lighting up the side lights for 30 seconds when you press lock or unlock etc

Costs:

£71.95 for the alarm with 4 door central locking interface, ultrasonics, siren, led, remote start and two blippers. Rightclick
£18.95 for the window roll up module (connects the alarm to the windows)
£50.00 for 2 window kit from ebay (or £100 for 4)
£6.00 for a 6 way auxiliary fuse box
£50 for a safari rear door replacement locking mechanism with central locking bar

You can ignore the last entry if you don't want the safari door included.
You can ignore the window roll up module and windows if you don't want the windows.
You can ignore the aux fuse box if you are happy for a load of in-line fuses.
