Hi, I have an early 110 which has been converted to a 200tdi at some point in its life. However, the chassis is pretty shot and I'm looking at options. Locally to me is a Td5 chassis and I was wondering if there were any significant differences that would mean it's completely incompatible or, is it a case of removing/replacing sections?

It may seem like an odd idea but being stuck down here at the bottom of Cornwall I've limited options, buy new or try and find something local. Although 100 miles away - it's still looked at as local!!

It's basically the same, from memory, engine and gearbox mount(s) , fuel tank mountings is all I can recall.

Ideal. So if I basically replace the engine and gearbox mounts along with the fuel tank mounts, I'm good to go?

Out of curiosity, is there any reason why I couldn't keep the later fuel tank set up as its plastic so I'm guessing I'll have no issues with rust in the future?

Even better, I couldn't source a plastic tank when I built mine plus I had a brand new steel tank anyways so I went that route.
This was 14 yrs ago and pre internet for me so finding a plastic tank was difficult.
There were a few other minor issues but I can't remember what they were but didn't cause any real problems.
I think the rear exhaust hanger mounting was different , silly things that were easily fixed.

The pins that the rad fits on were different iirc too, again just minor things if you own a grinder and a welder as I do.

Is it a scrapped chassis you are looking to get? Be careful with the VIN number stamped on the chassis (if it hasn't been cut out) as that is the vehicle identity, if you swap that over or have any welds near it PC plod may suddenly get interested as it could look like a ringer or be using a false identity.

Not really a proper way, and I'm not endorsing it, but you could always 'repair' the new chassis and as part of the repair process replace the front dumb iron (with the number) for your original one if it is in good enough condition to reuse, effectively its a sort of reverse ringing. Either way I would also keep the dumb iron 'offcut' from the new chassis (with the VIN number), and also the purchase receipt (and V5 if it has one) for it so you can prove you bought it and own both VIN numbers as a repair in that area will probably look a bit suspect!
The 'proper' way is a new chassis but as you will know that isn't that cheap

Many thanks. I believe there is a logbook with the chassis but I will check so, like you said, I can at least evidence I own them both.

Or, use the chassis and logbook 'correctly' and drop my 1986 110 body onto the 2005 chassis and my vehicle is 20 years newer!! I don't think that would go down well!!!
