The TD5 timing chain has a hydraulic tensioner that relies on oil pressure to make it work. So long as you change your oil and filters regularly and you dont have any nasty noises from the front of the engine it should last longer than you.
Thanks for dat, just asked the question incase i was missing something ( not that i know much about landys anyway!!!) just got my 1st so i now want to start learning, did you all just buy a haynes manual and teach yourselves how to strip them down, or is there another way?

When it breaksdown and it will fix it yourself if you can. Ask on here or read the Haynes manual as you go, if you fail and you will sometimes because you havent got the right tools or some nut that will not move no matter what you try then bring it to a man who can. You will learn a lot more if you try yourself first.
No need to strip it down yet ,slowly but surely you get to see every bit of a landy as you repair it.
By the way I know dam all about them either but I learn a bit more everytime I work on mine.

Haynes manuals do get some stick for dodgy advice sometimes, but overall they're a good reference guide to most stuff and handy to have. Cross reference it with a google search and you'll be fine for most work done on your Landy, although with the age yours is at i wouldn't imagine you'll be doing too much too it at the moment other than servicing it.
