Our finances are finally in place for us to go to the dealers next week to order a brand new Landy 110. We won't be buying it on HP, but will pay for it outright. Can anyone advise whether it is worth trying to haggle? Or is it a case of you want to buy it and that's the price you pay?

I just don't want to make an arse of myself when I go there.

ye, dont by one in this country , you will be ripped off in tax and vat for starters . far cheaper to buy out of the country. why buy brand new , your going to loose £3000 as soon as you hand your money over.. not thought about buying one thats a year old....

I bought my 110 XS Utility Wagon brand new for cash.
Dealers generally have no problem selling Defenders and there's less margin in them than the other models. Therefore the scope for haggling is more limited.
If you can settle for a version / colour that they've got in stock, then you're more likely to get a deal, than if you order a build to your exact requirements. You'll also get it a lot quicker!

I got about 5% off list on mine by doing that.
 
If you're a member of NFU you can get summit like £3k of the price. You will also often get a better deal on finance. If you took finance out I think the earliest you can pay it off is at 9 months. It can still often work out cheaper to do this than pay cash though.
 
Have a look around at independents who sell new or nearly new - like Roger Bass, Nick Kerner, or James French.

As has been said main dealers don`t have much incentive to haggle on a Defender BUT they do have rebates and allowances they can feed back into the price if they are desperate for a sale (for example to make volume targets) so strangely when you go to haggle can make a big difference - towards the month end or quarter end used to be favourite times.

You should also look at pre-registered vehicles which have been registered just to make target (the dealer takes them onto its own books as if a demo) - depending on how long the dealer has had to stand them. Approaching a change of index is often a good time to try vehicles like this, a 60 with delivery miles is going to be worth less than a 61.

And don`t forget geography - even if list price is the same propensity to haggle isn`t, dealers in areas which are more economically challenged might be more receptive to the power of cash.
 
i dont think land rover range rover are going to haggle as they are out selling supply
if you want an evoke you will have to weight till next april ect
and i think the defender is in short supply too
 
There's a nice 2011 coniston green 110 XS SW on defender2 with extras for 26k

If I had cash I'd rate my chances fairly high of getting that at a good discount more than one at a dealer.

If it was me I'd get a price inc any discount in writing, rock up and haggle for the 12 month old one.

If you get it for the right money it could be 12 months cheap motoring compared to losing 8k on a new one

Ive never bought a Land Rover brand new but I have bought a Ford. Don't just go to your 2 closes dealers. I sent an email to every ford dealer in the UK that I could find online. It listed the exact spec car that I wanted. The book price was £13600 and I ended up paying £9250. I was prepared to drive across the country to buy to save that much money. Its maybe worth a shot with a Land Rover.

]Hi , I'm selling my land rover regrettably . House extension to be built plus the misses has passed her test and wants a car :-/

Rather than except a silly price from the dealers i thought i'd post it on here .

She's done 11k and still has 2 years warranty left . I keep it in the garage so is in mint condition . I had a noise killer kit fitted plus also the full land rover matting system and a genuine luggage guard . I also put some OE nitro chargers on it worth around 400 quid .

Depending on the model you could be waiting a long time to take delivery, There seem to be loads of XS Station Wagons (obviously being the most expensive) but I was looking for a 110 hard top. Was told id would be gone september before I got it...... this wasn't really an option for me.

I searched all the UK dealers for nearly new, ex demo or Lease returns took a bit of searching but ending up with a 10 plate hard top in mint condition with 8k on the clock at a fair price, squeezed them a bit of price but most dealers wont budge. Best thing is to get them to throw in extras that wont cost them anything like a full tank (£100 on a 110 is better than a kick in the nuts), Mats extra years warranty etc etc everyone i talked to seemed more inclined to do that than drop the price.

Take it all in closed in a brief case, open it on there desk and ask for the keys....:D

Main dealers hate cash now I'm afraid - expensive for them to bank, security risk to hold and they worry about money laundering;)
