Would you guys buy an RR that has had a diesel conversion?

Reason for asking is I am after a 300Tdi, but a lot of them are converted V8's - are there any potential problems with this, or things I should look out for?

Also, most of the 'factory' 300Tdi's are manuals - did they come as an auto option? And did they ever come as a Vogue SE, as most also have the 'teddy bear' cloth upholstry, which I'm not overly keen on!

Cheers! :)

mines a classic converted to bmw m51 diesel.
Havent really had any problems that arent common to that engine in other cars, or that car with std engine.

Biggest faf has been figuring out which drive belt to use when old one snapped. (power steering pump was relocated and replaced with rrc one to clear chassis, so belt length not standard)

they did come 300tdi auto same as disco units apart from temp sender on engine ,as long as conversion done as lr did i wouldnt see a problem petrol /diesel engine looms were interchangable by plug near pedals so doesnt have to be bodged

They came in full vogue spec. There was a beautiful 9 softdash 300tdi auto for sale in Nortehrn Ireland a few months back, all the bells and whistles.

The only pitfalls I can think of with a conversion would be rust proofing on the chassis as the engine mounting points are different between petrol/diesel and between Disco/RR but as there was a factory one the right parts are out there.

disco and rrc chassis are identical unless lse that had a bit welded in chassis beams but after any mount for transmission

Mike ,
There's a potentially interesting LSE diesel conversion on ebay. Might be worth a look (no it's not mine)

disco and rrc chassis exactly the same ive swapped quite a few bodies betwwen the two ,it was often easier a few years ago to get 300 tdi disco from breakers and swap rrc body to get diesel conversion

Thanks DKL - already spotted it and spoken to the chap, but he wants about £3,500 for it which is a bit rich for my liking! Nice looking car though!
