If my old EAS pump was blowing through 40A fuses and stinks like burnt circuit board there's no point me buying a gasket replacement kit is there? :faint2: Can I get it refurbished to keep as a spare or is it bin fodder ?

Cannot think why it'd be blowing fuses unless it is sticking (worn out inside) or there's a short somewhere.

Saint is the man for electrics. I'd be cautious about putting a new pump on with a possible short but I'm a little clueless as to how you might eliminate the possibility.

New pump from Emmotts already on and working. Blew through three fuses within a minute of startup on the old pump, Disconnecting the EAS pump stopped them blowing. Fuse intact with the new one. Is there a How To anywhere on dismantling the pump - tried Google but I just get lots of gasket kits.

All my learning has been from listening to Datatek - he is the electrical genius - I just ride on his wave of brilliance...but you ain't wrong, the old pump has no doubt disintegrated at the brush/armature end....there are reports of being able to be rebuilt, but the parts aren't available IIRC, you would have to 'Frankensteins Monster' parts together.

There may be a How To somewhere on the web, but as the parts are not readily available, you could struggle to repair....if yours is knackered, it won't hurt to attempt to take it apart and take a gander yourself...if you can see how to fix it....maybe you could write the how to as no doubt it will help others!

Check US websites, apparently its a Thompson or Thomson pump and you can get kits for it under that name. I read it a long time ago so don't have any links. You can "Frankenstein" it as Saint says, I did that to my ABS pump which needed new brushes and one of the brushes needed a new holder. Fashioned one from resin and it worked for about 7 months but the next time it went it was beyond repair. Learned my lesson, having the car off the road twice was worth much more aggravation than the price of replacing it the first time and maybe cutting down on chips and ciggies for a couple of months!

I'll strip it and see what I find. Thanks for the advice.
