Head scratcher. I've got series 2 1958 diesel the prob I've got is when i push the switch for glow plugs the spring thats situated between starting solenoid and glow plugs lights up like a 100 watt bulb and burns out. I only hold switch down for about 4-5 secs. Is it because i have not got a volt stabiliser?

Ive just read a thread on here witch says if you have the new type of glow plugs [bullet type and not pig tail type] you by pass the spring that burnt out.Is that right?.

If you go backward and forward between the pictures you will see how you need to alter the wiring red wire new type yellow wire old type.

Thats great thanks will try that later. Just got to sort how to get air out of fuel line now manual pump does'nt seem to do anything?

open union on top of filter from lift pump and prime pump.
if its still no resistance to pump lever, turn engine over a turn as mechanical lever on pump will be sat on cam lobe, not allowing manual prime lever to do owt.
when all air is out of filter, do same on injection pump bleed screws.

I had a problem with the lever not seeming to do anything and just gave up, charged the battery and turned it over 'till it started. Only took a few seconds.

Changed glow plug wires to same as diagram above put some fuel down pipe from filter to pump and turned engine over.Took about 30seconds but she started up. Best noise in the world. Thanks for all your help.

Glad to hear its going, always sounds great when an engien bursts into life after issues/rebuild etc...

FYI:The little cam in the pump can wear a notch into the pump level, so the lever doesn't actually do much actuating!

Also another tip here, as someone said above, turn it on the starter to run the lift pump, if your not too sure of your battery or you think you might need to do a lot of fuel line priming pull the glow plugs so the engine can spin round with no compression.
