missis came back from work I jumped in the disco pulled of and thought I had a flat by the sound it made worse when reversing, put gears and low range gears into natural rolled all wheels, found front drivers has loads of play when I push and pull top and bottom of wheel is this the bearings or drive what is the way too fix is a complete unit on these cars

New hub required. Paddock Spares. OEM one is app £160. Basic spanner work to change it, but a set of pullers are needed.

cheers bud thought as much just needed a second opinion before I get the wife purse out and knock of the cobwebs

you wont need pullers just decent sockets and good cold chisel to knock old hub assembly off, and feed sensor wire through first and take note of how the inner wire support goes before removal

If a jobs worth doing its worth doing correctly. Or you could just knock the s--t out of it with a hammer and chisel..:p

why not most are more likely to have a chisel and what are you going to press against with the pullers ,the cv ? and your not going to refit old assembly :)

Just a thought ,i have a complete front hub ,well a pair actually .non abs .

They were new ,hub ,swivel ,pins ,bearings ,the whole lot 1000 miles ago , complete with disc ,and drive shaft ready to bolt on
£50 each im in dudley so not too far from you add a tenner each and ill add the caliper (very good) with pretty much new pads .

Yes, you press against the cv. How much more pressure is on it than when you throw the weight of the vehicle on it in a corner?? I,m not saying you are wrong James. I just dont like using hammers and chisels when there is a tool for the job.

New hub - around £60 with 12 month warranty - various suppliers on ebay. Don't know if Festerer's hubs are for Disco 2 (swivel pins?? non ABS??) D2 definitely has ABS.

Use a hammer with a chisel to knock the hub assembly side-on, so you're trying to rotate it in the knuckle housing rather than pulling on it... after removing the 4 retaining bolts of course...and the stake nut! :D The stake nut is 32mm I think...and officially has 350 lb ft of torque to tighten the new one in place.

well lads got it sorted, craddocks in Cannock sorted me one out for £94 with the vat with 2 year warranty bit of huffing and puffing at first used chisel to get it off no damage the old one is a timkin's usa but knackered loads of play in it well chuffed thanks for all the advise, another job ticked off the list

Did you have the three amigo's (HD, ABS & TC warning lights)?

Funny thing is on mine, when the offside hub went, it was grinding its brains out and was really bad. No Amigos!!! Nearside hub, hardly any noise and very little play..Three Amigo's right away.

no Amigos mate, missis has had it until yesterday jumped in last night and had the noise spun and pulled all 4 wheels found drivers front loads of play in it like it happened all of a sudden, had it on a test drive out earlier once work had been done no more bumpy noise must of been the hub set, but there again the missis complained about the handling last week and I put it down to budget tyres on the front
