got a new exhaust for my series 3 109 and fitted it today, then only went and snapped one of the bloody manifold studs off....

no deffo not good... just hopeing if I heat it up with sum oxy-acetylene I can get whats left of the stud to unwind, I had a few choice words lets put it that way... :frusty:

the problem was, who ever changed the down pipe from the manifold last used steel bolts instead of brass ones, anyway I gingerly took the manifold off last night praying I didnt snap a stud off in the block, which thankfully I didnt, took the manifold into work today, sneaked into the workshop and put sum heat on it which done the trick and I got all three studs out, now just waiting on my new studs, brass bolts and gaskets from mr steve parker, then see if I can remember how to put it all back together, who would have thought one poxy little stud could cause so much bloody hassel... :frusty:

Am I the only person that still drills through the manifold and uses ordinary studding with a brass nut and washer at each end?
Before anyone starts shouting there are tapered washers available to level off the top of the manifold and give a square shoulder for the top nuts to sit on.
It doesn't matter if the studding shears as it is easy to replace!
Never had any problems since!

not a bad Idea that, Ive replaced with stainless studs and brass bolts this time, anyway im hopeing by the next time the exhaust needs replaceing it will be sombody elses headache, the poxy thing is just a money pit, I only bought it because I wanted somthing cheep to lug my firewood about...

Ive got a brake overhaul to do next, and from what I can gather thats prob gonna be the next name it gets called once I try to bleed the system...
