Hi everyone. I was looking throught my parents freelander and I found a metal tube...broken, in the bottom of the engine bay. I scrolled through haynes but I am not sure. Is this the tube for the air conditioning? Or else, what does it do?

I took this photos throught the phone in order so you can locate the tube in the engine bay.

I don't have the equipment to fix it so... do I take to the mechanic or simply apply some duct tape?

the pics dont really help much , but could be an aircon pipe, if the car works ok without it (unless ircon does not get cold) dont trouble yourself , duct tape wont fix it any how as its a metal pipe for a reason (pressure) HTSH

The car works OK. I never really noticed it(maybe a slight clunck now and again, done by the pipe jumping around). But I also never use the AC so. Maybe next time it goes to the garage

Yeah its hard to gauge from the pictures, but is it your union to the air con compressor?

Try tracing it to whatever it's attached to at the other end that may give you a clue or where the bit it broke off of is

Well looks like the camera isn't getting here any sooner for me to take some pictures.

I turned on key for the last position before turning on the engine, I boosted the A\C to maximum and there was no air flow or suction from those tubes.

I think they might be related to the radiator. The metal tube does some sort of an elbow curve and one of the parts is connected to some metal device (through haynes I would say it looks like the oil cooler but i still don't know).
But the car never overheats.


Another problem, my passenger side door (3 door model) doesn't open through the central lock or the fob, and only closes through the fob and not the central lock. You think i need a new door mechanism?

the aircon wont operate at all on the compression side (suction etc) as there is a safety that wont engage the compressor clutch with low or too high pressure HTSH
