V8 4.0HSE (Thor): Investigated passenger side exhaust manifold blow-out to find that a the lower bolt- head (manifold to head ) on the 3rd cylinder back has been sheared-off and exhaust gases blowing-out as unable to tighten manifold enough to seal the gasket. Obviously I'll have to remove the manifold to access the remainder of the bolt which is stuck in the head.
Any ideas on how to remove the remainder of the bolt without having to remove cylinder head ?

Reckon when I remove the manifold there should be enough of the bolt protruding to weld a nut onto it and then spanner -it out...I have a MIG welder...just wondering will welding on a nut with the engine in-situ screw-up any of the Rangey's electronics ?

Disconnect the battery first or fit a battery saver. You will be fine.

Had the same issue ,no 4 and no 6 blowing ,
By the time i removed the manifold i had 3 more sheer off
Fortunatley they all drilled out , but took a total of 7 hours , so be prepared!!

Fit S/S bolts when u put it back on, may cost a bit but worth it.

I would use stud extractors first, if it was me.

I'd be wary of using stainless.

When I had my skyline the manifold bolts would shear regularly.

The fix was to use stainless but because the stainless bolts are so much more "solid" when the manifold expands they don't give a little, and so the manifold cracks.

The fix for that was to slightly enlarge the bolt holes on the manifold.

yea disconnect the ecu aswell, failing weldind, u can get 2 things... 1 is a nut with a reverse thread (VERY corse tightning thread) wich gets tighter as it is turned, aslo the same thing for hole so if u were to drill it , u screw it in (backwards again) and it gets tighter and uduz it.
