Are you sure Fett? I've always understood the holes were for dissipating heat and the grooves were to break the glaze (although is that their secondary purpose and their primary one is as you say?)
Yeah last I read , twas in a bmw mag but all the same and its to let the minute bubbles if gas dissapate rather than boiling away on the surface and causing the glaze and pressure holding the pad off.
If I had it electronically and/or I could find the magazine I would show ya lol pretty sure I kept em all so I will let you know if I see it. keepin 3 v8's on the road takes most of my time though lol oh yeah and a wife and a full time job
