Need a new cylinder head for a 300tdi defender. Has anyone used a Britpart head with success or you reckon it might end in tears? I have read they have additional waterways for improved cooling.

Island 4x4 want £249.99 exc vat with valve and springs dont know whether this has extra cooling waterways
Devon 4x4 want £420 inc vat but comes with extra cooling waterways with valves and springs

there was nothing wrong with 300 tdi heads cooling wise it was allways other fault mostly rad or coolant shortage due to p gasket etc,ive used quite a few heads as most people when given choice and price choose them nobodies complained yet

Turner engineering is 295std or performance 395 would go with turner as a better company

turners dont make there own heads and there aint a lot of factories doing so either

Would think that turner would be a better choice as they do all the work in rebuilding the heads. With just a parts supplier you don't know where or who did the work,and if any short cuts were taken(as in well good enough)
plus the money stays with a UK company and not a foreign company

new head will come from parts supplier whether turners add there bit or somone else,fitting recon one is risky as you can re-machine cast stress

" rad or coolant shortage due to p gasket etc " this was my problem so have replaced rad water pump and gasket etc. Just got to choose myself a new cylinder head

they do a crack and pressure testing on the heads. So how can the cracks get machined over if they do these tests and have passed?

id rather fit a new head, than recon aluminum head ,once over heated theres a good chance it will never stay flat ,dont get to carried away with pictures of machinery,new parts come from very few places unless brake parts or other consumables
