Hi all,I had the front drive shaft seal replaced before Xmas as it was leaking and now have very small leak of diff oil coming from the breather up in the engine bay . It's not a lot but would this indicate too much oil on there or something else ? Its an l322 td 6 . Many thanks in advance :)

I would check the oil level for a start, I presume your vehicle has a level plug like the earlier axles? the level would have to be very high to come through the breather though! Then check that the breather isn't blocked, it's worth checking the oil is not being blown onto it from elsewhere.

Thanks, Its defineately coming from the breather as i put a little catch tank on it, its only a little oil, (clear) but enough to make things a little oily below. I'll wait until it stops raining ....:eek: and get back underneath and check the levels. Many thanks for your help.

Strange one this. Breather is there to allow expansion and contraction of air when axle heats or cools. So air pressure doesn't blow seals out when it expands with heat or suck water in whilst wading as it rapidly cools and shrinks. Strange that oil should find it's way out of it as the air volume does not change quickly enough to have a strong flow to lift oil up breather. Check it is clear and check oil level that's about all you can do.

Well after using the old girl yesterday all day with a tank catch fitted it hasnt blown any more oil out( It was only about 50ml of clear oil in the tank before i emptied it). So i can only assume it has cleared a blockage or settled down( oil Level) . I did take off the breather pipe and blow through and shes clear . So fingers crossed alls good... Thanks for your help again.. Until the next time...:)
