Hi, I don't want to break forum rules and this isn't an advert. I have an early p38 4.6hse, and I feel the time has come to move it on. I don't think it will sell well in the current climate with fuel prices etc, so i am considering breaking it. Do these cars break well. My mind is not made up yet, I am after reliable advice. Many thanks,

So anybody got any proper advice? i see the car value is about £850, with current mot, although finding a buyer at moment will be tough, so is it likely to break for this sort of money? All major components are in excellent condition. Anybody have experience in this?

You have to strip stuff off it, store it, advertise it, If it's worth £850.00 will you get that for it after all that work. Possible if you're lucky but it maybe better to shift it for £600.00. If you can and save yourself a lot of hassle.

Considering its 4x4 season now, you might be lucky shifting it for a tiny premium. Spring/Summer would be the wrong time to sell...
You prepared for the rotting carcass that's going to remain on your property for a while?

They've got to the point now that for what breakers are asking for the big items you might as well throw the car away and buy another, so there are loads being broken and all the bits can be had for pennies if you shop around.
 
wammers you crack me up ,,ha ha ha , and for the rest of you it sounds doom and gloom ,you'll have the poor fella reaching for the carving knife drawer and slashing his wrist's ... i suggest put it on fleabay buy it now price ?????? you never know ,,good luck MOZZ

I have a workshop i can fit about ten cars in so breaking it isn't an issue as such and i have broken cars before so know the score, just having never broken one of these i dont know what to expect.

It is in reasonable condition, bar where i hit a post with the back bumper. It flew through mot two months ago, no rust at all, lovely engine, rebuilt from the crank up, 2 years ago. Starts and drives a dream. MOST (lol) electrics work, i have just reconditioned the EAS valve block and compressor, including new liner.

Trouble is the car has done 190k, and although in excellent condition considering, this will put off just about every buyer that can get past the fuel economy issues these cars have.
 
We do have a for dale section stick it there, sucking and see or go to a scrap yard and get 120 a ton simple really
 
Blimey, if it's as good as you say then try to sell it first for gawd's sake.
There are enough rubbish ones around that should be broken before a working one.

I reckon it'll be snapped up at that sort of price. They're excellent off roaders and for that kind of money someone might actually buy it and USE IT instead of being too scared to get it muddy or scratch it.

I might know someone who might be interested, thinking about it...
 
So because something is advertised on ebay for x amount, that means it WILL sell for that amount?

I have looked on ebay, ad trader, gum tree etc.

I have done research, this is part of it. Hell i thought the idea of forums amongst other reasons was to ask people their views with knowledge on that subject. Im not listening to hear say.

Its a simple question, has somebody broken one recently, did most main components go well or hang around forever.

Why does that question deserve, bar a few useful comments, a load of sarcastic drivel?
