I have just complete a complete rebuild of the brakes on my '84 sereis 3. I have fitted new pistons front and back, new pads, and new adjusters. The reason for this is one of the front wheel cylinders failed and began to leak.
I have bled the system several times and made sure the springs are in the correct positions and the adjusters are set. The brakes however are not as good as they were before the failure, and the rear lock up before the fronts seem to be doing any braking. The front brakes are working as I have tried jacking a corner up and spinning the wheel and it will stop when the brakes are applied, they just do not seem to be working properly.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Don't forget new shoes/pads have to be bedded in...
Lift up the rear wheels rest on axle stands and have an assistant press the
Brake pedal...
Use both hands to check resistance..
Are both wheels equal?
Do the same to the front wheels..
Is there full resistance and equal to the rear?
All this is subject to the brake adjustment being correctly done
Beforehand..
If all is fine roadtest her and check for straight line stopping and overall efficiency..

I usually back the rear off an extra click on the adjuster to get the fronts on first.

They have been adjusted so they all have the same resistance currently. I may back off the rears if that is likely to help.
What is the bedding in procedure for drum brakes?

Take the Landy for a drive for a few miles lightly tapping the brake pedal
Every so often this beds in the brake shoes....
