A few questions to those in the know, the white n red cable from the alternator goes to the starter relay, from there it then goes to the ignition and from there onto the glow plugs.

If i'm not using a feed for the glow plugs, do i need to worry about the white n red from the alternator or does it do something else ( i can't see it myself )

Ta

p.s. more questions later on......there's bound to be.

Yes i worked it out, was having an overload on the amount of wiring involved. The white red is the starter solenoid feed ( and brake/starter relay switch wires ).

I ' think ' i've wired the switch up slightly wrong as i can't turn it off without disconnecting the ip feed

Time for a coffee ;)

Fuel cut off doesn't seem to be working now :(

I have a live to the ignition ( from the starter/battery ), this then comes out to a relay, from the relay to the starter solenoid.

The opener circuit of the relay is from the ignition ( last click on the barrel ) and is earthed the other side.

However when i run a multimeter across the live feed from the ignition to the other side of the relay, it's permanently live?

Also when the ignition is on ( fuel cut off is connected to a live feed from the ignition ) the fuel cut off doesn't click if i remove the cable from it and plug it back in

any ideas?

ffs.

This is turning out to be some kind of therapy session, i worked out why the relay would display constant feed, 10 points to anyone else who does

As for the ignition, that's a different issue.

She starts fine, but won't turn off....the fuel cut off is wired into the only points on the ignition which remain live after the relay kicks over the feed to the solenoid...so where does it go to?? According to the diagram it's on the same loop as the alternator ( small cable ) which is the battery/volt light on the dash, this does nothing ( although i dont have any dash/warning lights wired in atm so bypassed doing that ).

I suppose i can stick the fuel cut off on a switch for now

the alternator has nothing to do with it ,fuel solenoid should come from rear of ignition how old a truck is it ,usually it goes ignition switch relay ,starter ,sotp solenoid comes striaght of back of ignition switch on terminal that doesnt go dead when cranking its used for feed for functions that go off while cranking, like relay to feed light switch ,radio etc,all white wires are ignition lives ,brown battery live ,alternator warning light has white wire feed to it then stripped wire to alternator ,all white wires will be connected to each other as will all brown

This is a complete rewire James, I'm using a series2 ignition.

I've sorted it now, i did have it wired correctly, the connection to the ip pump was faulty ( a new fitting, too loose ) so i've rectified it and now it starts and stops when the ignition is on/off.

Still wondering what to do with the smaller cable from the alternator as at the moment i'm not installing any warning lights for that area...

ignition live to alt, but without a warning light is stupid

do they have resistance wiring instead?

straight ignition feed to alt on my bandit from new as wiring diagram shows and I use as trigger for relay for heated grips

It is possible the regulator is current limiting internally- but I never got excited to check

in the alternator yes on big stuff, mine has an ignition feed to alt and no warning light or resistor.

**** pot 125 etc have separate reg

Nope, my cbr600 has a separate reg/rec- can't remember off-hand if it has warning light.

ignition live to alt, but without a warning light is stupid

I don't understand, why is it stupid?

yu MUST have a warning light as that acts as a current limiter

Could you explain abit more?

ta

:EDIT: i've found a resistor, looks like a fuse with a metal braided jacket inside a push n twist fuse holder. This, if i'm correct, goes between the alt small wire and the charge light, fuel shut off and then back to the ignition?

What purpose does going back to the ignition do though? The ignition has a live feed switched ( first turn on, 2nd turn opens the relay ) already
