Hi all, daft question... plugged my rangie in at work and everything is ok but noticed the boost temp sensor is constantly reading -43 degres c so my question is what will this be affecting and does it really need changing urgently as i hadnt noticed any differance when driving but this is the replacement engine that ive done appox 2,000 miles with. its a 96 model dse many thanks:D

It'll be sticking a lot of fuel in if the ECU thinks the inlet air is that cold.

Hi there mr wammers and yes it does seem to be hammering fuel, 10 squid is getting me around 25 miles but the tank has been low since xmas with all the bills etc etc so i havent managed to fill her up like i normally do so its a tenner everytime the fuel light comes on, i no that it isnt a proper mileage calculation but it gives you a good idea that something could be wrong, will it loose performace when i put new sensor in as if it thinks that the air is that cold then it must be over fueling but theres no excess smoke from the exhaust and is the sensor the one that sits in the inlet manifold just after the turbo intercooler hose connects to it? thanks for the reply.

Yours will be none EGR and yes the inlet air temp sensor is the one just under the manifold at the front where turbo pipe fits on.

What tool did you use to read the sensor's output ?
Tools from Omnitec (Hawkeye included) seem to always give a wrong value for that particular sensor. I found out the hard way, after replacing mine for a new original LR and still have a temperature of -39ºC. After that I found some people on the internet that had the same problem and all of us were using Omnitec tools.

Sorry for the long wait, the tool i use belongs to work and i think its called autodiagnostic or sumert like that, i no it cost around 4 grand and talks to everything on the market, it lets me re-code becms if they are unlocked. Il message the real name of it tommorow.

the sensor cant cost a lot you will probally save the cost of it on fuel in a short time . your vehicle must be drinking diesel

it is but my supplier (general traffic and euro parts) dont list the sensor so im guessing its a landrover only part, got to be worth it tho... funnily enuf its drinking it but its NOT black smoking as id expect with pouring too much fuel in,
