So got my wings back on today, got the bonnet back on and it won't close.......
It's catching on the new chequer plate I put on, i've adjusted the wings as much as I can, adjusted the main bonnet catch, it not the rubber stops I've wound them right in. The release cable seems ok and moves the catch without any drama. Im at a loss not got a clue what to try next?!

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Screw out the pin on the bonnet, or put washers between slam panel and locking fixture

Is the chequerplate in the right place on the wing?. The gap between my wing and bonnet is not that big. Doubt I'd get chequerplate between them.

You are lucky, I could get an London bus between mine, I suppose my lardy self standing on the wings does not help.

Like freelance says. Washers or cut a shim to pack out the fitting that the bonnet catches on.

You could always walk along the outside edges of the bonnet and get some neat shut lines back.

il have a look at this tomorrow when I get chance, only problem is when I force the bonnet down as far as i can I have a 1 inch gap between the slam panel and the bottom of the bonnet, which leads me to think the wings are still sitting too high. hmmmm

I lined it up using the holes for the vents so it should be in the right place, screwed the vents in so i doubt it could be that. chequer plate is from Bearmach.

I was getting that frustrated first port of call was going to be a hammer the second a 1mm cutting disk haha, I then calmed down!

That comment was meant for neilly.

Sounds like your wings might not be on right.
How well do they line up with the sills at the bottom of the bulkhead?

Fair old gap on mine as well, about a half inch, the 2mm chequerplate on the wings reduces it slightly. I am fairly sure my wings are in the right place.

I think the bonnet has become dished due to my habit of standing on the bonnet chequerplate to pick fruit and suchlike.

Ha ha my bad.

Had a little play with them earlier, had a look at how they lined up with the sills at the bottom and both were perfect so I adjusted the wing where it bolts to the bulkhead just under the bonnet, took a bit of persuasion to get it to the lowest point on each side but I managed it. Also adjusted the pin slightly and just like that it closed and locked! Haven't got a uniform gap but I can live with that!

Most of the stuff is adjustable a little bit due to the clips in the holes in the pillars having a tad of free play in them. See if you can wiggle the wings and front panel around at all by loosening the bolts and pushing the panels.

Bending the wings and bonnet is a drastic solution, and should only be undertaken as a last resort.

I'm happy enough with it for now, when i've got a bit more time for fettling il have a little play, wary of the weather at the min, need to get all the other panels on so its a small problem that can wait for now, although it will bug me no end!

Just realised I haven't shut the bonnet in my photo...

So long as it closes securely, and opens and shuts ok, don't worry about it!

The rainwater just runs through the gap and down the inside wing panel anyway, and will do even if the gap is 1mm all round.

Another reference point will be the shoulder of the bulkhead. Does the shoulder of the wing line up with the bulkhead shoulder smoothly? The wing looks a little high on that picture. You'll be amazed at how 1mm, at one end of something as long as the bonnet, can make a much larger difference at the other end. Get your other panels on and the Landy waterproof (lol

) and then maybe check the bulkhead shoulder line out.

Looks to me like the chequer is too close to the hinges stopping it going right down at the front. Maybe some sort of slot near the bulkhead in the chequer to bring it closer to the wing?

Thats the very last resort as the chequer plate is riveted on the wings.

Looked pretty spot on to me but il have to double check it before I put the arches back on so I can adjust it if needs be.

Just a thought. If the wing is 100cm long (it's probably a bit shorter, but it helps with the maths) and at the bulkhead end the wing is running out by 5 degrees. By the time you get to the headlight end of the wing it is over 8cm out of horizontal. A small discrepancy at one end can have a big affect at the other. Obviously, getting other bolt holes to line up towards the headlight light end of the wing will help keep the movements under control. But, there is a surprising amount of wriggle room that can make all the shut lines and 'line up' lines be a long way out.
