I have just noticed that when the bonnet is shut the gap above the drivers headlight is much narrower than the light on the passenger side. When you press the bonnet down on the drivers side its solid no play. The pasenger side feels spongy like its not shut properly. I have had a look and cant see anything obvious... Anyone else seen this?

Bonnett catch on that side not locking properly? Give it a grease up

Before you force it down just check that the catch on that side is working correctly. You don't want to get it shut then find that you can't get it open again - tin opener time!!!

there are also rubbers on the underside of the bonnet is one missing?

It was the rubbers... It needed screwing in a little as it was stopping the lid coming down enough to catch the lock.
