I've re-profiled the front of me Disco...:(

Heading to Scarborough on Saturday on the A614, just exiting a village so in process of doing speed/mirror checks before accelerating, when the car in front (Merc ML30) anchors up. Hit the brakes but ended up sliding into the back... These big 'eavy things take some stopping dunt they?

Unfortunately, the Merc's towball went under the bumper and set off the airbag sensor - ****in 'ell they cant be good for you... My cousin who was in the passenger seat at the time saw the Mercedes and braced himself against the dash (as you would) resulting in a very sore thumb and his watch trying to occupy the same space as his left ventricle.

For some reason the rozzers turned out, and being traffic cops I now have to attend a driver improvement scheme... Whoopee, now I can spend a day with a bunch of Nova driving Chavs!

Quick repair list for damage is:

Bumper
Rad grill
NS headlight/indicator
NS headlight securing panel
NS Outer wing
Bonnet
Airbags and controller

The airbags alone will mean the car is a write off, but i'm planning on buying it back and rebuilding without the SRS and sticking a winch bumper on it. The car still drives perfectly, although the nice PC advised me i was not allowed to drive it in 'that' condition... the recovery bloke asked why I couldn't drive it!:p

Oh well, now i just have to wait for the insurance to do their thing .

Lerk - glad you are OK, that's the main thing.

Get the Disco repaired and return to happy disco-ing...

They might be pretend 4x4's but they're put together strongly!
 
Annoying thing is being a 08 Merc he'll probably get given a brand new one at your insurers(read YOUR) expense:(

One other thing what make of tyres are on the front of your motor? No special reason just trying to think where I've seen that tread pattern before.

Worse than just an '08 Merc... 2 week old '08 Merc :eek: what a great choice of car to have a first collision into!

I believe they're Nankang sportmax or summatorother...

I normally shod my round spinny things with better quality rubber (that being what keeps you stuck to the road and help your brakes do something useful!), but having only just got the car with good amounts of tread left I thought I'd leave them on whilst my finances settled back down from the purchase of the car... ...big mistake:rolleyes:

On the plus side - at least I hadn't replaced the headlight washer that had been broken off by an anti (along with the aerial and a couple of scratches down the side) when the previous owner had a pro-hunt sticker in the back window.
 
Could be a lot to be said for the stopping distance and cheap tyres but no point after the fact eh?

Still gives you more incentive to chop it about and make it more off road friendly and with a bigger bumper you might manage to inflict more damage to Mercs and the like:p
 
Yeah stick a winch on and go do him again, blimmin merc drivers :D

I've got hunting stickers in the slitty, and I've only had me wingmirror smashed off twice :)
 
Ah've got me BASC sticker and a couple of SGA (Scottish Gamekeeper Association) stickers on mine and nowts happened tae me:D Must just be lucky;) :D

Really unhappy now...

The assessor came out and offered me £50 less for the car than I paid (not too bad) but they want £500 to buy it back. Decided to let them have it, by the time I've repaired it i'll end up out of pocket...

Anyway - does anyone need anything for their Disco 300? Bits of trim etc. Obviously nothing too obvious that will be missed!

They're fetching the car tomorrow but if you let me know before 10 tonight I'll whip it off and let you have it!
 
Have you got an origional stereo? A mini (new shape) hit me up the RSE when i was in the volvo and they wrote his car off ! the volvo got a VALET!!! JUST A tiny scratch by the Towbar it's always best to have a towbar on any car. Just shows that Merc must be quite well made, bet the bloke was a bit gutted, at least you are ok.
 
Take out the CD changer if you have one and flog it on fleabay

I could do with a spare wheel cover, and jack and wheel nut wrench :)
 
Hmmm do you have one of the little plastic covers that go on the underseat draws? Don't suppose there's a luggage cover in beige going cheap...and my towbar plastic electric plug socket is mashed - gonna take a trailer when we move to spain at end of year! :)
 
Id dearly like a drivers side mirror....can you get the glass out?I think they might notice the whole shebang missing:D :D :D

Right, ere goes:

I do have a genuine landrover tape player minus code and aerial socket - hence I fitted an elcheapo cd...

It had a plastic disc with soft material type wheel cover with some garages name on it, jack is staying in my shed but you can have the wrench...

No underseat drawers or load cover, sorry x2!

Towbar socket - Yep

Drivers Mirror - I'll have a try!!!
