Hi all!

I've just had my freelander back from having the drivers side re-sprayed in Java black. I asked the guy when could I give the car a polish, he said anytime cos itÂ’s been baked in the oven. The old man reckons I should leave it for at least a month?

Can anyone shed any light on this??

Thanks, STownrow. :)

I would say leave it to harden. Even baked paint needs time, also it we need to release some thinners originally in the paint.

once the car has come out of the oven and cooled down, it's safe to polish it, usually leave to cool ovenight.

Spoke to my body shop last night and they said they will soon be using a water based paint which once dry and baked can be polished or flattened within 30 Minutes rather than overnight as it it now.

The problem is any bear metal sprayed with the final coat could rust due to it being water baised, so the prep work needs to be even better and high spots in the repair work leaving bear metal will be a problem.

They said the paint work will still be soft after a day though.
