simple question. Are you allowed to have them fitted on the roof?

NO. but you could always register your vehicle as an ambulance and then yes.
 
Technically you can (for use at shows, rallies etc) but you are supposed to have covers on them when driving on the public highway.

Same as sirens . . dare you use them on the road an you'll be collecting bicycle points !!!
 
the only time yu can have (visible) blue lights on a vehicle on the road is by prior arrangement with the police (fur films n tv n stuff) - else yu will be nicked, my son;). Private land - i.e. shows is different.

Legally the only lights you can have on your vehicle are the ones the manufacturer put on and additional fog/driving lamps. Amber rotating beacons may be used if the vehicle is been driven on a public highway at less than 35mph. at all other times they're illegal.

Now the chances of a copper bothering to pull you for using an additional rotating amber beacon are slim. but for any other colour you'll get a pull.

Well, I'm sort of crazy about fire station vehicles... that's why...

And I'm not gonna use the lights at all, ... I just want them fitted, but not even connected. I'll need to think of something... white beacon would be great I think... It's not blue but it's look like it could be ;)
 
how do the vintage fire engine enthusiasts get away with it? they drive on the road with the blue lights still on top.

So... can I have blue, not connected, but not covered lights while on the road or not?
 
Here I hope yer not one of those geeks what sets fire to fings so they can fone the fire brigade and watch em getting their hoses out.
 
best not to risk it ive seen the police pull over military and raf police over this they even have the power to impound your vehicle and charge you with things like impersonating a police officer as well as a whole host of motoring offences enough for hefty ban and fine as well as loss of vehicle
 
I think you're right. I'll fit white then... looks like something and will spare me some trouble in the future...
Any colour light is OK to be on a vehicle if it is covered up or not connected up (excluding blue).
Only emergency vehicles can be fitted with a blue flashing light, or anything that looks like a blue flashing light, whether working or not.
