Hi folks, hopefully someone will point out that the problem I have is simple to resolve and point out how stupid I am for not finding the cure myself ....... I recently bought a 2001 TD5 ES. It had a nice little compass in the mirror, nice heated seats, nice light in the vanity mirror and a cigarette lighter. All of these are connected to fuse 15 (under steering wheel) and all appeared to be working until I plugged my sat nav into the cigarette lighter. It appears fuse 15 blew at this point so one would assume that the fault lay with the cigarette lighter. I have gone to the extreme of removing the centre console and removing the lighter from its housing (and wiring) but still fuse 15 keeps blowing as soon as ignition is switched on !! I have removed bulbs from vanity mirror, disconnected the cables to heated seats (when removing the console) but guess what - fuse 15 keeps going puff. I have gone through 8 so far. What am I missing ? Thanks folks

erm.....I hope not, although the nearside mirror glass was loose before I bought it and I asked the chap to fix it before I picked it up - he obliged........ Go on, tell me

hmmm.....thanks for that. Pretty sure it's not that 'cos it was working fine until I plugged my sat nav in....my rage continues

It may be that the satnav plug has damaged your cigarette lighter socket so that it is short circuiting. Unplug the cigarette lighter socket from the loom and go from there.

Thanks again - I have now completely removed the cigarette lighter, plus I have checked inside of mirror/compass....still blowing that fuse ...GGGrrrrrrr RAGE (oh and my sat nav itself still works fine)

I had a similar problem with my D2 in that the passenger front window would blow the fuse but only going up,turned out that the wiring loom up under the glovebox had dropped of its clip and rubbed through on the lower dash frame work,a bit of insulation and a cable tie to make sure it couldn't happen again fixed mine.I know yours is a different circuit but could have a similar cause

My no.15 keeps blowing too and I need the cigar lighter to power my horse trailer LCD screen. I've now bought 20 fuses so I can suss out what's blowing it (I don't have heated seats or **** nav though)

And yes it's bloody annoying!

this issue needs some investigation cos it's possible that the IDM is at fault(let's hope not)...do you have RAVE? cos then i'll tell you what to do to get closer to an answer if u are up to DIY....and off course u must be able to handle a multimeter

a ID what ? a multi who ? LOL.....I don't mind checking levels, changing wheels, bulbs.....sad but that's about the limit of my expertise . This is gonna cost me aint it ?

And what I don't get is if my fuse 15 is blown why does it only affect the cigar lighter and not the interior lights which are on the same fuse

no they're not, the interior lamps are on fuse 20 ... the vanity mirror is on F15

Well that would it explain it but my owners manual states fuse 15 is cigar lighter, interior lights, seat heaters and vanity mirror illumination but my XS doesnt have the last two, but is also says interior lights are on fuse 20 and interior illumination (whats the difference?) on fuse 11 and 33.....oh I give up, lol!

The plot thickens......there is no fuse and yet today the compass started working but only when i turned my lights on. Then it stopped again.....wtf !!! ?
