Went on a road trip down south to Birmingham visiting a friend at uni, followed the sat nav and it led me to the exist of the uni, a car was pulling through between the ballards and even though it was the exist I thought I'd just quickly sneak through as I could park about 25 foot away, now being a country bumpkin from the north I didn't realise that posts can rise out the ground to act as security! Hell of a bang but other than a cracked bumper didn't look to bad, until I swapped the bumper today and seen how close it was to my rad getting burst, glad it didn't as it would have been a hell of a tow home! In my defence the post was down when I got there and I couldn't see it over the end of the bonnet when it came up, daft idea though posts that rise magically out the ground, also what's the crak with being able to alter speed limits on the motorway! If there's congestion surely it'll get worse if they slow everyone down.

Well if there were no signs warning of the pillars, then sue the uni- Yanks would, despite it being an exit...

Sounds like a simple case of following the signs to the entrance.....you knew you were entering an exit so nobody to blame but yourself.

And slower moving traffic moves more smoothly and bizzarely flow rates go up mostly because of impatient idiots weaving lanes to gain an extra few seconds in heavy traffic...



Or nip into a parking space through the exit

I have long held the belief that people that do this are too stupid to own cars. Well done for confirming my theory.

Aye my own daft fault, hell got a shock though! Shame I wasn't in the series it would more likely bend the post

Not too stupid to own one, I'm doing a grand job of owning it, its just the driving bit that's the problem.

We've had variable speed limits for a very long time down here
Traffic flows much faster than the stop start you get without the variable speed limit. Until too many people are in the local NCP car park, code name M25.

Most people seem to favour the outer 2 lanes which in heavy traffic are the slowest lanes!!!!

Aye I see the logic behind it, something I'd not seen before though, I was pleased with the f1 on the motorway, got much better mpg
