is the blend motors the same unit that's used for the air distribution? ie, are they interchangeable?

there all the same, they only have coloured bands on so you get them in the right place when replacing them as a complete set.

You can even buy a single blend motor,it'll have about 4" of flex on it,so you can just joint it to exising cable to save taking it all out.
Either solder joints and heat shrink or use small connector block and insulation tape but connector would have to be on the small side as the motor has 5 no wires

As ABU says above the blend motors are interchangeable but there is one other type of motor that's different, it only has two wires and so doesn't have the position circuit. I'm sorry I can't remember exactly but I think its probably the recirc one. But if you're buying off ebay etc just be careful as it looks the same from the outside, the better sellers know this and are very clear about which one they are selling.
