I plan to change the blend motors in the wife's '99 this weekend. They need doing before she goes to her new home however I seem to remember something about having to get them calibrated using a T4 or similar. Can someone please clarify what is actually required.
Thanks.

There is a proceedure which Testbook uses to calibrate the blends,it just makes sure they can go through their full range of operation and give feedback to the Hevac panel as to their whereabouts.I've always used it because I have Testbook, but I guess not all get done.
What I would say is probably more important is to check that the distribution flap is free to move when the blend motor is off.Have a look at the US RR.Net site, there is a load of stuff on there about it including my method of freeing it off using a large self tapper....

Thanks eight. My main concern was that if the motors were not calibrated correctly that they may destroy the teeth on the new motors when the flaps close. I have tried searching for your RR.net post before but wasn't able to find it. You wouldn't have a link handy?

I've just checked Rave manual & there's no mention of calibration after replacement. It merely states to fit as reverse procedure. So, I'm not sure.

I have a BBS Nanocom Evolution2 which does a calibration by moving the motors through there full range of motion until it hits stop. So I wonder if they are self calibrating???? I would think so as they check position on start of power & if fault display Book symbol.

If in doubt get someone local with a Nanocom EVO2 to check. These diagnostic units are not tied to a vin/single vehicle, so will do the job.

Just swapped the blend motors. Got back heat control but direction function still failed. Took the motor off and tried it just make sure it was working. Tried moving the flaps by hand and they stiff but moving. Tried your self Tapper trick and wheyhey. :D All working fine.
Car goes to a new owner tomorrow so happy it is going fault free.

Thanks for the tip eight.
