Your welcome any time Mate. wish you were coming sooner.ah i'm down that way every now and again. if you still have issues in a few months and have had no joy i could drink a cup of tea and pretend to know what i'm doing![]()
Thanks for link mate.
Will do that when I service it.
Thanks Mate. Just noticed you are in Washington Im in Stanley.Lot's of good photo guides in Busters section. Use paraffin to clean it and make sure it's fully dried before replacing it. Only takes a couple of minutes to do.
I'm by no means an expert on these engines but I am close to you, so can help you out if you get stuck. As others have said, I would start with changing the filters (air, fuel, oil) and oil, then see what it's like.
So basically it smokes all the time when you press the throttle pedal![]()
Gave it a servive tonight, all filters and changed oil.
Puff of black smoke on turn of thr key, and very little after that, still there but a 100 times better, so maybe solved the problem, will keep an eye on things the next few days though.
Thanks to Everyone for info and help.
Much appreciated.
Got a few more nigily problems hope yous dont mind me asking again.
Thanks Again Kevin
Told you to change the air filter. Most smoky diesels benefit from it. I know several peeps who remove the air filters completely before their MOT smoke checks then put the same old clogged filters back on afterwards. False economy if you ask me especially as you already have the air box apart.Gave it a servive tonight, all filters and changed oil.

Why FFS??...
Its going to garage on Monday next for brand new brakes. discs, calipers the lot, front and rear, gonna get all bearings and swivels done while they are in there too.
Once engine is sorted, gonna try and sort the heavy clutch pedal for her But thats another post later on.![]()
Its mainly for my Wife to drive Mate, just want it Safe and Sound for her, Your right Im getting myself in a right mess, trying to get money together for parts ect, but never mindWhy FFS??
I did the back bearings on a 2007 110 TD5 a couple of weeks ago, just over 1/2 hour each side.
Did my front discs, changed the bearings and oil seals in just over an hour each side. My Fender has drums on the back.
Why do you need to change the calipers?
You must have a norful lot of money in Stanley, or is that another fine mess you are getting into??![]()
PM received and responded to.Its mainly for my Wife to drive Mate, just want it Safe and Sound for her, Your right Im getting myself in a right mess, trying to get money together for parts ect, but never mind.
Someons put new pads on knackered discs, so might aswell replace the whole lot, calipers dont look that good so got new front ones. Might aswell do all swivels bearings ect while there in there.
Just about got all the parts I need.
Just looking for the right person to do the job at a reasonable price.
My defender is 1990, 200tdi.

Do not want to touch it myself, I do not have a clue when it comes to enginesMaybe it would help if he backed down the pump timing by a notch... could just be an issue of too much advance in the pump timing. Had a similar problem after my cam belt change. Turned out the mechanic who did the job had inadvertently advanced the timing on my already tweaked pump.
Engine felt like it was on steroids, only it was much louder than usual, run a bit warmer at speed and pumped out tons of black smoke... backing it down a tad through the small inspection hole in the cam belt cover sorted it.
