The fuel pump on my 99 1.8 freelander has become very noisey so i got another off find a part and popped it in this weekend. The petrol in the pump and filter that i took out was black in colour so much so that its almost too dark to see through. After a half hour test drive the car seemed to die on me,it ticked over but wouldnt rev.I switched off, waited two mins and off we went.Any ideas,? whats the black,? do i have a blockage,? any help would be most welcome.

cos he shat in him tank ..just fer research porpoises..he wanted to see if adding solid fuel to his doosul would increase mpg

Anyway, is it possible to drain the tank without removing it,perhaps some kind of siphon or pump and just wiping the inside of the tank through the pump hole?

you might want to consider taking it off and using one of them tank sealer kits . it has an acid which cleans up the inside of the tank, and a coating not unlike paint which will protect it against any rust forming inside. it make the inside of yer tank like new.

:) I cured the problem by draining the tank and wiping it out with old cloths . I did this with the tank insitu with very little mess, then fitted new filter (the one in the pump, not the one halfords keep trying to sell everyone) and hey presto,no more dying, no more chugging, it runs great. Many thanks for all help, especially the funny ones.:p
