Hello all! :)

I did the plastic bits today with a bit of black bumper shine, it made a great difference! (In my opinion at least.. :) ) Everything was in a grey'ish colour , now they are back to black, sort of speak. A few pictures.:

50/50:


Before/after:





It went from grey to black again.

They look good.

But aren't they meant to be grey on a pre-facelift Freelander? :rolleyes:

Cheers mate. :) Really? Where all the mk1's grey? They looked very beat up, sort of speak, wast improvement (again, my personal opinion) to finish them in black. :)

Yes - as far as I know they were all grey LOL :D

But I agree - it's a big improvement in appearance.
 
Hi, even the facelift bumpers tend to fade a bit to a grey colour....i just 're-blacked' mine again this week, try to do it at least once a year & it s great.....use Car Plan Back To Black.....works a treat :D

Looks good. What was the product you used?
 
Ah well, looks like I was wrong about the changeover point to black then.

If it was in 2002 then I must have just missed it on my 2002.

Presumably the product you used was that bottle of 'Black Wax' in a couple of the pics?

Ganz richtig, as the Germans says. Cheap product from a Swedish/Norwegian chain of stores, £6 a bottle. :)

It's simply called "bumper shine", it looks a lot like liquid shoe shine to me. :) It did work though.
 
Good work on the bumpers - Black shoe wax works really well too

I love those black Cow pushers you've got fitted
 
I've been have a look at some of my old pics and right enough I think LandRover changed the colour of the bumpers more than just once.

I reckon they started of with a mid-grey colour then changed in 2002 to a dark grey, before finishing up with black ones.

I found a pic of my 2002 TD4 which had dark grey.

Not a brilliant pic for comparing colours, but compare the rear door handle and the wheel cover which are 100% black and you can see the bumpers are lighter.



Edit: Hmm, on 2nd thoughts, now that I've posted it , maybe you cant see much difference at all, but believe me the bumpers are not black.

I'll just leave the pic as it shows my fool-proof burgler alarm. Lets see any thief try putting his arm in through that open window. :p:rolleyes:

Still a relative newbie so sorry if its been done before. My 98 3 door's plastic is definately grey and was looking a bit naff. On another forum the 'peanut butter boys' were in full cry, but one suggested a 1 : 4 mix of raw linseed oil and white spirit. Having both in the shed I gave it try. Yes it really restores the grey, looks good, doesnt streak in the rain and lasts a good while.
