hi i own a freelander 1.8 99t petrol and i am struggleing to select second and reverse is this the clutch or could it turn out to be more exspensive also the bite point is on the floor

would be greatfull of any advice

Sounds like it -

1) Bleed the system properly.
2) Replace clutch and master cylinders.
3) Start crying.
 
When clutches wear out, they usually slip, not drag as in your case.

I suspect the hydraulic release system is failing as suggested by the Mad Hat Man.

Try bleeding the system before selling money out.
 
I agree with the above. Bleed the system first. If this doesn't work replace the master and slave cyclinder. Simple job, any Freelander owner can do it ;-)
 
Thanks for the replys i might turn out to be one of those annoying members cus i wouldnt know where to look anyone with any instructions would be great and then i promise i wont annoy you any more lol
 
you can't bleed the 1.8 clutch, its a sealed unit and comes complete and bled from the factory, if it fails, you change the lot
 
Fairly expensive, but pretty easy. I;d rather have a job like that than one that is cheap but a b*****d to do.

The cylinder assembly (for a diesel) is £46 plus VAT, genuine part from LR.
