my previous thread was asking for advice about buying something to just have some fun in, I might have found a disco (although I was looking for a defender) only thing is its an auto. I have driven autos before but purely on the road.... infact I have never driven off road except when locating/parking my caravan ......does this count?????
anyway back to my point would I be hampered with an auto or is this a better option??????
any advice?

Auto is fine if anything people will debate they are better offroad

assuming its the v8 it will be brilliant offroad

if its a doozil the auto is very underpowerd ,offroad in low box it aint as bad,but onroad they are terrible they take forever to get goin

Mines auto Diesel TD5 don't seem underpowerd to me, get's going reasonable quick,I Offroad it blooming great, off road I prefer auto, mind you I can't really compare to manual disco as not had a manuel one,
only other ones I offroaded are a 1998 diesel man Freelander and a 1970 Series 2a man, out the 3 prefer auto put in drive and forget and in low,
some times if need the low gear i'll put it in 3rd or second.
not got stuck yet. I watch were I take at the moment as no protection underneath yet soon will be

dunno bout the td5 ive only driven a 300 tdi auto and it was awful

had a 300tdi auto jap import disco and tbh it wasnt that bad.

might have been cause it was a later model and LR allegedly upped the power but picked up fine, kept up with my mates tuned 200tdi (fuel pump & turbo tweaked) disco but was better on fuel so I was quite happy

only thing I didnt like was 1st low seemed too high and the engine braking didnt work as well as a manual box but for the OP that shouldnt be too much of an issue.
