Admiral autorenewed the policy on my landy ! ( at an extortionate rate)

Coonts - then retrospectivally billed me for 4 weeks cover as my cc details had changed Lucky for me - told them to jog on for the bill as my landy is sorned !

They never sent me any documentation prior to a bill 4 weeks after policy had lapsed - i was raging when i called customer services .

Bill has now been revoked but they werent willing at first ( might have been they why do you even have my details on record as thats a breach of the data protection act comment i made but who knows)

Can almost guarantee had i had an incident in the landy in those 4 weeks they would have denyed cover due to non payment !

Something to keep any eye on though folks !

Dinnae get caught out !

Can they still do this if you pay the policy outright at the beginning over the phone on a card, or can it only be done if you set up a monthly Direct Debit?

Mines was paid by a mastercard in full at the start ..... I then had it cloned while in a dodgy country with work so had a new one issued so the details they had would not work hence the bill ..... Sure as ****e if they had taken my money id never have seen it again !

That is definitely a breach of data protection then. I'd go as far as to say it's theft!
I'd get in touch with the FSA and have their robbing arse's nailed to the wall!!

pretty common, will be hidden in the small print somewhere, I always make a point of ringing up to opt out of automatic renewal once I have the documentation.

the woman from Tescos (pet insurance) couldn't understand why I wouldn't automatically renew. She was convinced the risk of me forgetting to renew was more likely than them putting the price up.

I then asked if they would send out a renewal invitation, to which she said "oh yes, we do it automatically" reply: "Not likely to forget then am I?"

admiral took money off a card that they where told not to use, thus incurring a charge for going over my limit!! they got bolloxed big style, got money back and so far some of the charges

my brother had hassle with insurance. He checked his bank account had £x amount to much when he looked insurance had not taken money he asked why they said policy cancelled(been driving round for 2 months no insurance and he had not cancelled policy)letter was sent out sir.He argued the point got fobbed off and was offered an new policy at 300 pound more than last one.

not just insurance, break down services, do it as well. if aa auto renew it costs me £150 if i renew it manually the same cover is £90.

we had one come through for the wifes car....i rang telling them not to renew...they refused to take the instruction from me cos it was the wifes policy.... told them it was my card ,im refusing them permission to take payement from it, they wernt happy..... then went on meerkats and tookout a new policy with the same company 100 quid less than the renewal quote.... bastids.
