Hello all,

Having a little bit of trouble over the last few days! Parked car up Friday and went to start it yesterday but it just died and then clicks!!
Jump started and fired straight away! Took it round the block and everything seemed fine! This morning went to start before work and it wouldn't start again! Jump started straight away though.
Its been fine all through the decentish weather up until yesterday..... any ideas before I go and spend £100 on a battery? Just hope it starts at later for when I go home from work!!!

Charge up the battery and test its voltage after 12hrs resting. SHould be 12.65. anything below 12.4 and its going to be iffy.

You may have a drain on your system. disconnect the negative lead and measure the amps across the terminals with all electrics off on the car. Do a google for parasitic battery drain or similar.

Finally, check your alternator is giving over 13v at idle and more at higher RPM.

Thank you for your replies! I will change the battery first hopefully by the end of the week and go from there.... hopefully it is just the battery!!!

If the problem coincided with the drop in temperature there's a good chance it's the battery but, check it out as ronsealdeath suggests before buying a new one.

Agreed, first sign of a frost.....the death of many a border line battery....happened me twice, but V8s always need a top end, newish battery to keep up with demands

Oh so true fella's.
Happened on my Camper Van over the winter lay up.
I now connect a maintenance charger during lay up, no more problems.

Got that now....life saver and gets the most life out of your battery

Battery megastore on line, Alphaline 135AH 1000CCA. Check your alternator is charging, you should see 14.2 volts at 2K rpm.

Thanks for all of your replies. New battery seems to have sorted it! Car did start straight away before going home! Got a battery from euro car parts and its working alright.
On a separate note I've decided I dont need 2 cars and one has to go and im sorry guys but I cant get rid of my Merc (1991 W126 500SEL) so the Range is going up for sale I think.... tax until end of December and mot until July 2014... just under 144K on the clock

What is it with people getting shot of there Rangies recently...????

....end of tether V8....straw that broke........too many niggles.....too unreliable.....one big bill for a part thats 1/2 the RRs value and a bitch to replace.......more than enough if you aint a dyed in the wool RR enthusiast that can DIY

Running 2 V8's at the mo and the Merc just sits there unfortunately so the Range has to go. Lovely car though. Maybe in the future I will own one again.
Dont need 2 cars for myself plus driveway space is bit of an issue at home due to 3 other cars in the family

Best time of year to sell a 4x4 ???

....Tony how could you.........to even suggest the Daily Mail readers might just believe the hard winter story they ran 3 weeks ago and those readers believing an elderly unreliable RR for £1,999 will be the answer to all their difficulties.....;)

Ha, Ha, Ha,
You must have a crystal ball mate !!!!!!
