Trouble with using those free services is that if they find a problem and want to quote me for a battery then I feel realy bad not buying from them. I would rather have a guilt free search for the best deal.

I have a Vauxhall Trade club card and they are usually my best source, just need to go through there book to find one to suit.

give them the option.

get a price from your tradecard place for a new un, when halfrauds try to sell you another, ask if they can match or beat the price. when they say no, thats your answer to them.

Battery charged ok and seems to hold charge.

I checked the earths out and the battery cable goes to the chassis via a clip that should be securely bolted to the body. The earth cable was loose in this clip so not giving a great earth I guess.

I am drilling a hole through the cable to push it directly through the post to see if this gives me a cheap fix.

Will let you know, although the alternator is very noisy, very noticeable from inside the cab while idling.

drilling holes in cables will just reduce the area in contact and make things worse - use your jump leads to try and isolate if there's a bad earth rather than wrecking things

know your gonna reduce the cross sectional area of the cable with this?
smaller cable + big current = heat!

might cause you a few problems!

I have drilled a hole in the middle of the cable and with it pushed tight on the post surely that will make up for the bit I drilled out as more of the copper is making contact with the cars body. I think it should work but won't know for a few cold days. If I get the starting trouble again I will buy a new battery and earth lead.
